With PDAC 2025 approaching, it's interesting to learn about Tamar Mining's journey, which will be present at stand #2552 in the Projects Pavilion. In this exclusive interview, Gastón Scolnik and Miguel Peral, the founders of the company, share their vision on the portfolio and strategy of the only 100% Argentine, greenfield explorer, led by the two founding families. They also reflect on the past, present, and future of mining in Argentina.

The Interview with the Explorers by Daniel Bosque

  • Gastón Scolnik: "Tamar Mining was created three years ago from an idea between Miguel and me, as we both have a great passion for mining and are deeply involved in the sector. We decided to fulfill our dream of having our own mining exploration unit in Argentina, with Argentine capital, and with the love we have for the country. That's how Tamar Mining was born, a company of the Peral and Scolnik families, and we are proud to carry it forward with the effort it requires."

  • Miguel Peral: "Gastón has been a great developer, pioneer, and discoverer. We are the only greenfield junior with Argentine capital. We’ve made the decision, for now, not to list on the stock exchange. We prefer to seek our own resources and create funding networks. We are proud to be Argentinians, to trust our country and the activities we develop, and to invest here, believing in mining and its sustainability, side by side with communities. Argentina has incredible potential."

  • Gastón Scolnik: "We strive to show Tamar Mining to the world, so they can come to Argentina and see our company grow. There are foreign companies with large financial resources but little knowledge of the country. If they managed to do it, why can't we? We know Argentina and the potential of our provinces."

  • Miguel Peral: "We were lucky to start when the mining movement in Argentina began to gain momentum. Today, we generate new areas and enjoy working on new projects in places that have yet to be explored."

  • Gastón Scolnik: "We work in both Greenfield and Brownfield projects, and at PDAC, we’ll present several projects, including two new areas in Northern Patagonia that could be copper porphyries, never explored before. We also have a gold and silver project very close to Cerro Vanguardia, acquired from Grupo Minsud, and three areas in northern Argentina, such as El Quevar, a booming mining area."

  • Gastón Scolnik: "Our work in Catamarca is very important, where we have our most advanced projects, such as copper porphyries. It gives us great satisfaction, as the community has chosen us as the best project to work with in the region."

  • Gastón Scolnik: "On a social level, the community has recognized us, and beyond the geology and the potential of the project, this connection is crucial for us. We deeply value this bond as a joint venture."

  • Gastón Scolnik: "Regarding RIGI, we are still in the Greenfield phase. Although there have been mentions of amounts below US$200 million for RIGI access, it’s an additional incentive for international markets to invest in Argentina, which benefits us."

  • Gastón Scolnik: "Argentina has enormous potential. Over recent years, many interesting things have emerged that give us hope. Every government, regardless of their political affiliation, is working to make mining a key sector for the present and future of the country."

  • Miguel Peral: "Tamar Mining focuses on exploring new areas. Ten years ago, we discovered two copper porphyries in Chile, but now we prefer to discover in Argentina. We need more companies to explore the future of mining, and that’s Tamar’s focus."

  • Gastón Scolnik: "From its origins, Tamar Mining has been a company with a 100% female board of directors. Silvia Rodríguez, Miguel's wife, with extensive mining experience, and Julieta Scolnik, with her youth and experience in the sector, are key members of our team."

  • Gastón Scolnik: "We also have the invaluable support of Miguel as a geologist, who has traveled across the country and has seen his projects turn into mines. Fernando Peral, Miguel’s son, a young geologist with great expertise in new technologies for mining exploration, is also part of Tamar. Francisco Peral, who is studying Geology, also works with Tamar."

  • Gastón Scolnik: "Tamar Mining also has the backing of Meridion del Plata, with Matías Finkelstein and other family professionals who support us in this process."

  • Gastón Scolnik: "Our challenge is to get Argentinians to understand that we are miners, with an incredible wealth of resources. If we understand this, we can grow even more as a country. Argentina has everything it needs to be a mining leader."

This commitment to responsible mining and future-oriented vision is the driving force behind Tamar Mining, which continues to bet on the development and growth of the mining industry in Argentina.
