As her term comes to a close, the current president of WiM Argentina, Silvia Rodríguez, shares a message with the members of the organization and women working in the mining sector—"those who, with talent and resilience, have succeeded in making gender equity a fundamental paradigm for building a sustainable mining future."
By Silvia Rodríguez, President, WiM Argentina
All terms eventually come to an end, and today is the time for me to say goodbye. Like any conclusion, this is a moment for reflection on the work we have done over the past two years, during which I have had the honor of leading this institution.
The journey has been one of camaraderie, openness to change, learning, responsibility, and enthusiasm, reflected in every initiative we have undertaken. This has allowed us to achieve some of our key objectives and, with great effort, build a transparent image free from partial affiliations. We also deepened dialogue both within and beyond the sector and advanced in developing strategies among women in this and other industries while maintaining connections with different social stakeholders who share WiM's vision, always upholding respect for diversity as our guiding principle.
Through these shared values, we have established WiM as a national benchmark, strengthening our identity as women and fostering female leadership in the mining industry. At the same time, we expanded the dissemination of scientifically validated information, opened new spaces for debate, and built support networks that are essential for our ultimate goal: to grow in numbers and continuously improve. All of this has been made possible by a team of individuals who selflessly dedicated their time and effort, demonstrating great human value in every initiative carried out.
Today marks the end of a fulfilling first term, during which we successfully implemented the projects we envisioned and reaffirmed WiM Argentina’s commitment to advancing various initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges women face in the mining industry. On a personal level, this has been an incredible journey in which I was never alone. I have learned that when goals and projects are shared with people of great integrity, positive results multiply.
I would also like to extend a special thank you to WiM Director Celeste González, Mercedes Rodríguez, Director of Institutional Relations, Marita Ahumada, Director of the Advisory Committee, and every one of my fellow WiM members. In them, I found support, brilliant ideas, and unwavering encouragement, strengthening our bonds of camaraderie and friendship. Together, we have ensured that this transformative process continues to create new opportunities, empowering more and more women in Argentina’s mining industry.
